For the past 18 years we have ministered every week at a local nursing home. Thankfully, many lives are touched as we, and our team, lead the residents in worship.
The service is simple but meaningful. Hymns (of course) are featured along with choruses. It is heartwarming to watch the “congregation” singing and clapping and praising the Lord. Some raise their hands in worship, others quietly cry.

This is one of my favorite photos of all time. Our little two year old Vivianna greeting Miss Dinah -102 years old – at the nursing home. Truly precious!

MY SINCERE ENCOURAGEMENT TO YOU
If you lead a Nursing Home Ministry, you are welcome to use any of the materials I include on this page. My prayer is that you will allow the Lord to anoint you every time you lead a service. Remember, you are doing this ministry as the Lord’s servant. Don’t allow yourself to become discouraged, fatigued, or distracted. Â
Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and always treat the residents and staff with courtesy and respect. Always be aware of this important truth: YOU ARE IN THEIR HOME.
Pray and prepare before you arrive — don’t allow yourself to become “lazy” and carelessly plan to just minister off-the-cuff. You are the Lord’s representative – be the best you can be. If you can’t sing – don’t. If you can’t play an instrument – don’t try it. Find people who can and encourage them to join you.
Guard this ministry with sincerity and don’t allow anyone to be part of your “team” who does not a true heart for a nursing home ministry. Many of the residents are near eternity and they deserve the very best you can do. Â
Be cheerful – be loving – and smile!! You are doing a ministry which 95% of Christians will never do. (You must be very special in God’s eyes for Him to entrust you with such an important assignment.)
My prayer is that the Lord will anoint you for every service and that people will always be glad to see you come into their home.
